I don’t like owning a lot of “stuff.” What I do own I want to be well designed, timeless, and practical in the best sense of the word.
So I created Canopy Verde, a line of eco friendly and vegan handbags that are inspired by many things – my love of mid-century Danish design, the feel of my beautiful Brooklyn neighborhood, and a philosophy of making something in the most earth friendly way possible.
I have seen firsthand from working in the fashion industry how much waste gets generated with each season of product – everything from pages of color printouts to yards of leftover fabric that end up in a landfill. Starting my own brand gave me the freedom to create new processes and avoid the same old practices.
Ten years ago I enlisted the help of my friend and former colleague in Hong Kong, who is now part owner of a factory. We work together to choose methods and processes that cut down on waste and reuse materials whenever possible. An added bonus is that I love working with another woman-owned business in a part of the world that has a lot of personal significance to me. (Going to Hong Kong to see samples also means that I can visit my parents and family!)
I hope you love the feel of the wood details and the pop of orange that greets you every time you open your Canopy Verde bag. Canopy Verde is about creating something that is classic, well designed, and lasts season after season.
